Algal Settlement Inactivates Lanthanum/Aluminum Comodified Attapulgite: Implications for Phosphorus Control in Shallow Lakes

نویسندگان

چکیده

Phosphorus (P) inactivation agents have been widely used to control sediment P release for combating lake eutrophication. The settlement and decomposition of algal biomass from the overlying water can alter microenvironment capping layer potentially affect performance agents. In this study, we explored impacts on lanthanum/aluminum comodified attapulgite (LAA), a commonly agent, underlying mechanisms through incubation experiments. results showed that could inactivate LAA. After settlement, amount locked in LAA decreased by 11.8% relative control. Algal induced anoxia LAA, which favored growth phosphate-solubilizing bacteria, thereby enhancing release; meanwhile, driven decomposition, more organic matter penetrated competed with adsorption sites. increased desorption ability inhibited increasing permeability layer. This study provides beneficial information future field applications restoration.

Nonstationary models for shallow lakes

In this paper we study the behaviour of solutions of Navier{Stokes equations with adherence to the bottom and traction by wind at the surface when the aspect ratio = depth=lenght of the domain tends to 0. Precisely we prove that when wind is moderate, a variational solution converges to the solution of a vertical diiusion model. This model is either quasistationary or nonstationary, according t...

Phosphorus Models for Eutrophic Lakes

Abstract--A model is developed for a highly eutrophic lake (White Lake, Michigan) which incorporates both the water and sediment systems and considers two forms of phosphorus--particulate and dissolved. Dynamic interactions of phosphorus between sediments and water are quantified by taking account particulate phosphorus sinking to the sediment-water interface and diffusion of dissolved phosphor...

The Economics of Shallow Lakes

Ecological systems such as shallow lakes are usually non-linear and display discontinuities and hysteresis in their behaviour. These systems often also provide conflicting services as a resource and a waste sink. This implies that the economic analysis of these systems requires to solve a non-standard optimal control problem or, in case of a common property resource, a non-standard differential...

Spatial identification of critical nutrient loads of large shallow lakes: Implications for Lake Taihu (China).

Ongoing eutrophication frequently causes toxic phytoplankton blooms. This induces huge worldwide challenges for drinking water quality, food security and public health. Of crucial importance in avoiding and reducing blooms is to determine the maximum nutrient load ecosystems can absorb, while remaining in a good ecological state. These so called critical nutrient loads for lakes depend on the s...
